The School of Continuing Education (SCE) is one of the eight Faculties/Schools of the University. The School, operating on a self-financed basis, offers a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes in various academic disciplines and professional areas.
Applications are now invited for the position of Part-time Instructors for a project tilted “The effectiveness of the 8-week GreenCare Programme in improving glycated haemoglobin levels, physical activity, and mental wellbeing in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Hong Kong: A randomised controlled trial”.
Responsibilities
- Physical Assessment & Exercise Prescription: Assist the research team in conducting baseline and follow-up physical assessments (including health-related and functional fitness tests) for individuals with type 2 diabetes, and design personalized indoor and outdoor (park circuit) aerobic and resistance exercise prescriptions based on their health conditions.
- Lead Supervised Exercise Classes: Direct each session for 1.5-hour supervised exercise sessions (including indoor group training and park circuit sessions), demonstrate correct exercise techniques, and ensure participants' safety and proper exercise intensity.
- Supervise Student Helpers: Assist in directing and supervising student helpers from Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Physical Education disciplines during exercise sessions.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Physiotherapists, and Research Assistants to ensure all interventions strictly adhere to the study protocol.
Requirements
Applicants should possess
- Recognized fitness/personal trainer certifications (e.g., CSCS, ACSM, ACSM-EP, Certified Personal Trainer, or equivalent preferred);
- Prior practical experience in leading exercise group sessions for individuals with chronic conditions (especially type 2 diabetes) or older adults is preferred; and
- Good command of Cantonese, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; valid First Aid and CPR/AED certificates.
