Professional Certificate in Strategic Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Programme Aims

In response to the indicative direction given by the HKSAR Government, the School of Continuing Education of Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Logistics Association have jointly designed this programme. The key purpose is to provide continuous and systematic learning opportunities for supervisors, executives and managers in middle to top management levels coming from logistics service providers and in-house supply chain and logistics functional departments to enhance their professional expertise to meet new challenges that lie ahead.

Programme Recognition

Upon successful completion of the Professional Certificate in Strategic Logistics and Supply Chain Management programme, students are fully exempted from the educational requirements for the Professional member or member of the Hong Kong Logistics Association (HKLA). This course aims to introduce the students to the procurement process of an organization and to equip them with the techniques for supplier evaluation. It also examines the current strategic procurement management of an organization. Topics include:

  8. Purchasing and Commodity Strategy;
  9. Managing Supply Chain Inventory;

Global Operations and Supply Chain Management

This course aims to introduce the students to the operations management and its application in supply chain management in global context and to appreciate the operations management techniques for logistics operations function. Topics include:

  1. Role of Supply Chain Management in a company;
  2. Overview of Operations and Supply Chain Management;
  3. Demand Forecasting and associated Risk;
  4. Aggregate Planning in a Supply Chain;
  5. Production Planning;
  6. Project Management;
  7. Network Design in a Supply Chain;
  8. Structuring Upstream and Downstream Partnership;
  9. Coordination in a Supply Chain and Quality Management; and
  10. Trade and Customs Issues across the Global Supply Chain.

This course is designed to allow the students to appreciate the strategic role of air transport in Hong Kong. It also aims to equip them to understand the techniques and technologies used in transportation, warehousing and inventory management which are the major components of logistics management. Topics include:

  2. Air Freight Transport
  3. Strategic Stance of Air Transport in Hong Kong
  4. Road Freight Transport: Vehicle Selection and Vehicle Costing
  5. Ocean Freight Transport
  6. The Store and Warehouse Layout
  7. Identification of Materials and Inspection
  8. Stock Operation Checking and Stocktaking
  9. Stock Control Techniques
  10. Inventory Management Techniques

Logistics Systems and Applications

This course aims to provide students with an understanding about the role of Information Technologies in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and provide an overview about the concepts, the development and the implementation issues of e-logistics. Topics include:

  1. Logistics and Supply Chain Information Systems;
  2. Electronic Commerce;
  3. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI);
  4. Warehouse Management Systems (WMS);
  5. E-Customer Service;
  6. Enterprise Resources Systems (ERP);
  7. Payment Processing, Fraud in E-Commerce;
  8. Building and E-Commerce Infrastructure;
  9. Reverse Logistics; and
  10. Outsourcing the Whole Thing.
5.LOG4050China and Logistics Solutions中國與物流方案30

China and Logistics Solutions

This course aims to introduce the students to current developments in the logistics industry, and provide students with the opportunity to learn about the social, technical, and economic issues of the logistics industry so that they can develop realistic solutions. Topics include:

  1. Contemporary Logistics Issues;
  2. Trading Risk in China;
  3. The Economics of Pearl River Delta;
  4. Infrastructure for contemporary solutions;
  5. Time – The Order Winning Criteria;
  6. Formulating Logistics Strategies;
  7. Formulating Logistics Solutions; and
  8. Comparison of Logistics Practices.

Duration and Mode of Study

9-12 months part-time

Medium of Instruction

Cantonese supplemented with English


Students who have successfully completed 5 required course will be awarded the Professional Certificate in Strategic Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

March / July / November of every year

Course Schedule and Venue

Classes and examinations will be held on weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons (normally two classes per week) at Kowloon Tong / Kowloon East / Tsimshatsui / Wan Chai Learning Centre.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  1. Level 2 in five HKDSE subjects including English and Chinese (and up to 2 APL subjects) or equivalent and 2 years' relevant work experience; OR
  2. Successful completion of Yi Jin Diploma and 2 years' relevant work experience; or
  3. Holder of a relevant School of Continuing Education (SCE) Diploma or Certificate or other equivalent non-SCE qualifications; or
  4. Aged 21 or above, preferably with 3 years' relevant work experience.
