Advancing Global institutional Collaboration: HKBU SCE and Shenandoah University Students Engage in Cultural Exchange Activities
2026年04月16日
The School of Continuing Education (SCE), Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) welcomed a delegation of ten students and two faculty members from Shenandoah University (SU), U.S.A., SCE’s valued MOU partner, for a unique cross-cultural exchange in March 2026. This visit marked a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration and enriching students’ learning experience across borders.
The two-day visit began at HKBU’s Kowloon Tong campus, where members of the Division of Nursing Education (DNE) at SCE led the SU delegation on a tour of the Nursing Lab and SCE Innovative Gerontological Learning Hub. DNE staff guided SU students to engage in hands-on clinical practice and gain insights into the history of traditional Chinese medicine.
On the second day, the College of International Education (CIE)’s Internationalisation Development Committee (IDC) hosted a series of creative activities at Shek Mun Campus to deepen cultural understanding. SU students joined a “Last Name Matching” session, creating their own Chinese names with the support from CIE students. By introducing a wide range of Chinese given names and their meanings, CIE students enabled their SU peers to genuinely embrace local culture and symbolism through this meaningful activity.
Another highlight was “Street Food Tasting in the Community” activitiy. Guided by CIE students, participants from both institutions ventured into the local neighbourhood to discover and savour iconic Hong Kong street food. Beyond enjoying the flavours, students engaged in lively conversations, exchanging impressions and cultural insights.
The visit offered a valuable opportunity for students and faculty members from both institutions to connect and explore American and Chinese cultures. It also underscored the School’s commitment to providing cross-cultural learning experiences and global exposure for its students. Through these ongoing efforts, participants from both institutions were being supported to forge connections, collaborate, and build bridges across cultures.
