The School of Continuing Education, one of the seven Faculties/Schools of the University and a major provider of continuing and professional education in Hong Kong, offers a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes at the post-secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels for young learners and working adults. It also offers in-house training and short courses to meet the community needs and market demands. Operated on a self-financed basis, the School and its College of International Education currently employ about 400 full-time staff and 500 part-time instructors. The School is inviting applications for the following position:
Assistant Information Technology Manager (Senior Systems Analyst-DevOps) (Ref. No.: 25260526)
The appointee is expected to perform the following duties:
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a small DevOps/application support team (application support and developers) to ensure day-to-day stability, performance, and availability of mission-critical applications and services.
- Plan, implement, and continuously improve DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, environment management, and release governance to enable reliable and repeatable delivery.
- Own production support and service reliability, including incident triage, root-cause analysis (RCA), problem management, and preventive actions; maintain runbooks, operational documentation, and knowledge base for effective support handover and continuity.
- Coordinate software delivery lifecycle activities (requirements, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance), ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and supportable.
- Design, map, and document system integrations and interfaces between legacy and new systems, ensuring secure, seamless integration and efficient data transfer (e.g., API-based integration, batch jobs, middleware where applicable).
- Drive quality engineering and automation by defining test strategies, maintaining comprehensive testing documentation, and promoting automated testing and quality gates to meet project timelines and quality standards.
- Oversee release planning and deployment activities, including cutover plans, rollback procedures, change communication, and post-release validation; coordinate across project teams and stakeholders to minimize service disruption.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to team members and vendors/contractors, including code reviews, technical guidance, and adoption of standards and best practices for DevOps and application support.
- Prepare user-facing and operational documentation including user manuals (where needed), support guides, and operational procedures to facilitate adoption and efficient support.
- Perform other IT projects and assignments as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in application support, DevOps, and system development with system integration exposure; experience in leading or coordinating a small technical team is highly preferred.
- Strong programming and application development skills, with solid hands‑on experience in designing, building, enhancing, and supporting applications and system integrations in production environments.
- Proven hands‑on experience with Java, PHP, Python, RESTful APIs, and SQL, including application integration and database interaction.
- Strong troubleshooting and support capability across application, integration, and database layers, with the ability to diagnose root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
- Knowledge of the following technologies and tools is an advantage: Docker, Kubernetes, MS Power Platform, PowerBuilder, Jira, and test automation tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify, assess, and resolve complex system and operational issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical audiences; proactive, self‑motivated, and committed to service quality and delivery.

The initial appointment for the above post will be made on a fixed-term contract of one year. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
