Senior Research Assistant (Part-time) (2 vacancies) (Ref. No.: PRSCEP0009/22-23)

The appointees will work on a Seed Grant Funding Project funded by the School of Continuing Education, HKBU. The project is titled ‘Embracing New Pedagogy in Early English Learning: A Comparative Analysis of Hong Kong Kindergarten Teachers' Attitudes Towards Cognitive Linguistics in Teaching Count Nouns and Mass Nouns to ESL Learners’. It investigates pre-service and in-service early childhood educators’ perceptions and open-mindedness in new pedagogy in Early English Learning, with a particular focus on teaching English count nouns and mass nouns to young children in local kindergartens.

The appointees will be required to perform the following major duties include a) data collection with pre-service and in-service kindergarten teachers; b) data analysis; c) preparation of teaching materials and data collection tools; and d) communication with participants for distributing incentives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education/ English/ Applied English/ English Linguistics or TESOL or related disciplines with at least 3 years of post-qualification research experience; Master’s degree in related disciplines would also be considered;
• Preferably excellent competency in the English language;
• Good mastery of data analysis tools, including but not limited to SPSS, is preferred;
• Strong connections in kindergartens and with in-service teachers is a plus;
• Prior experience in early childhood education sector is a definite advantage.

The appointees will be required to serve on the Kowloon Tong Campus.

Appointments will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 28 February 2024.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
