Course Features
This course features 3 business communication genres and 2 language skills in both Chinese and English. It comprises various forms of learning activities and is conducted in online synchronous and asynchronous modes.
- Business correspondence and report writing;
- Oral negotiation for agreement in the workplace;
- Online synchronous tutorials and guest talk via Zoom;
- Online asynchronous video lectures, case study analysis and self-directed learning tasks via online learning platform.
Course Objectives
The course is designed to enable students to enhance their English and Chinese language proficiency in the workplace. Through a variety of learning activities such as lectures and tutorials, guest talk, case study analysis and self-directed learning tasks, students will be able to grasp the nuances of how the English and Chinese languages can be best used at the workplace in order to communicate at a proficient level.
- HKDSE Level 2 English and Chinese; or
- HKCEE Grade E English and Chinese; or
- Higher Diploma / Associate Degree; or
- IELTS Band 5.5 (Academic); or
- National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) (Gaokao) 300; or
- Passed the CIE entrance written test

70% attendance of online classes together with 70% completion of course content on the FutureLearn platform.
Students who have obtained a passing grade and satisfied the attendance requirement in the course will be awarded the certificate.
Applicants may submit application through (A) online system, or (B) hard-copy submission by mail or in-person.
(A) Application through online system
- Enter SCE Online Application System and fill in required data.
- Upload files of the following documents onto the system:
- proof for relevant academic qualifications and professional qualifications, e.g. certificate of public examinations (application for exemption should be submitted with supporting documents which include transcript/result slip, certificate and course syllabus);
- proof for relevant work experience (if any);
- any pertinent supporting documents; and
- a recent photograph (1.5” x 2”).
- Make payment for the application fee for admission (HK$120), and handling fee for exemption (HK$200 per course if applicable) through the Online Payment Gateway.
(B) Application through hard-copy submission
- Download and complete Application for Admission form (SCE-AF-002)
- Attach PHOTOCOPIES of the following documents:
- HKID card;
- proof for relevant academic qualifications and professional qualifications, e.g. certificate of public examinations (application for exemption should be submitted with supporting documents which include transcript/result slip, certificate and course syllabus);
- proof for relevant work experience (if any);
- any pertinent supporting documents.
- Attach two recent photographs (1.5” x 2”).
- Make payment for the application fee for admission (HK$120), and handling fee for exemption (HK$200 per course if applicable), in the form of a crossed cheque made payable to “Hong Kong Baptist University” with applicant’s name, contact number and programme name written at the back. Applicants who submit application in-person may make payment with cash or EPS.
- Complete set of application should be submitted either by-mail or in-person at the following address(es).
