Resource Library

The Resource Library is located on the 9/F of Madam Chan Wu Wan Kwai SCE Tower. With a nice environment equipped with suitable facilities, instructors and students can:

  • Read or borrow various types of books, reference materials and multimedia materials.
  • Take leisure reading of newspapers, magazines and periodicals.
  • Use the computers, printers and copiers.
  • Make self-study.
  • Have group discussion in the Discussion Room or Activity Room.

  2. Admission to the Resource Library
    All staff and students of SCE with valid SCE ID cards are eligible to use the Resource Library. Part-time instructors with valid SCE ID cards or as recommended by Programme Staff are also eligible to use the Resource Library.
  3. Conduct of Resource Library Users
    1. No food or drinks could be brought into and allowed in the Resource Library.
    2. Smoking, sleeping, taking photographs and playing games are prohibited.
    3. Use of mobile phones and pagers are prohibited in the Resource Library. They must be turned off or switched to silent/vibrant mode before entering.
    4. No rearrangement of tables, chairs or other furniture is allowed.
    5. Silence must be observed in the Resource Library.
    6. Personal belongings must not be left unattended in the Resource Library.
    7. Keep the Resource Library clean.
    8. Books, materials, equipment and other properties of the Resource Library must not be mutilated. The cost of a full replacement and its administrative costs will be charged for any damage caused by the Resource Library user.
    9. Resource Library users will be held responsible for loss or damage to any library materials whilst in their charge. Any defect or damage to books or other materials found before borrowing should be reported to the Resource Library staff immediately
    10. Users should not reserve seats with personal belongings. Resource Library staff may take away those personal belongings that are unattended for more than 15 mins. The seat would be released to other users.
  4. Borrowing Regulations
    All staff, instructors and students of SCE may borrow books according to the following conditions:

    1. All Resource Library materials must be checked out at the circulation counter before they can be removed from the Resource Library.
    2. All users are requested to present their valid SCE ID cards when checking out library materials.
    3. Part-time instructors may check out library items in person. Reservation could also be made via e-mail or by filling out a Resource Library Material Loan Form and have the completed form returned via respective Administration Manager. Books/materials could be arranged to be collected at designated learning centres.

      4. Multimedia Collection CD, CD-ROM, VCD, DVD, videocassettes, cassettes, etc. For loan to all users.
      5. Past Examination Papers Past papers of public examinations e.g. LCCI, ACCA, etc and collaborative programmes. Reserve / Reference / Instructor Collection as specified.
      6. Student Theses/ Projects Theses/Projects For use and reading in library only and have to be checked out at Circulation Desk.

    5. Maximum loan items: SCE students could borrow 4 items at a time while the staff and instructors could check out at most 5 items.

    7. All materials borrowed must be returned on or before the due date. No renewal could be made if the item has been reserved by another borrower.
    8. Users should check the condition of the item(s) and report any damage to the Resource Library before checking out. The School reserves the right to claim charges or replacement for the damage of the item(s) from the borrower.
    9. Transfer of library items to other users is not allowed.
    10. Magazines, journals, some designated books and certain course-related resource materials are for reference in the library only.
    11. The books/materials are for users’ private studies and academic reference only. No part of the books/materials could be duplicated without consent of the author/publisher/copyright holder. The user will be held fully responsible for any violation of the copyright law.
    12. Resource Library users can reserve library items by filling out a Reservation Form. They will be informed when the reserved items are ready for loan.
    13. Fines for the late return of borrowed materials will be charged as follows:

    14. Staff members and part-time instructors are responsible for returning all the library materials borrowed before their employment at SCE is terminated.
    15. Students must return all books before they withdraw from the School. Certificate will be issued only after the student has returned all borrowed items to the Resource Library.
    16. Items lost by borrowers will be charged accordingly. Charges will include the processing cost, the replacement cost and the fines accrued.
  5. Inspection of Library Materials and Personal Belongings
    On the request of Resource Library staff, all library materials and personal belongings including bags, cases or other kinds of receptacles must be shown for inspection at the library exit.
  6. Loss of Privilege of Using the Resource Library
    1. Borrowers who have kept overdue books which have accumulated the maximum fines will be suspended from borrowing until the books are returned and fines are settled.
    2. Borrowers who refuse to pay for books damaged or lost while on loan to them or to pay fines accrued on overdue books, or who consistently refuse to observe regulations will be forbidden to use the Resource Library.
    3. Users who have been discovered mutilating library materials or carrying out non-issued library materials may be barred from the use of the Resource Library for a set period of time.
    4. Library users had to observe the library rules and regulations. Should there be any violation or acts in any way which may interfere with the convenience of other users of the Library or with the normal routine of the Library, Resource Library staff would collect identity of the involved student(s) while the case would be reported to the Programme Administrator. It may result in exclusion from the Resource Library for a set period of time as agreed by the SCE Resource Library Management Committee.

 

 

The Discussion Room is open for bookings by SCE students and staff. It may be booked by students for a minimum of 3 and up to 6 users, or by instructors for a minimum of 2 and up to 6 users.

 

Booking

  • All applications will be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • The booking time will be a multiple of 1 hour for each timeslot (at most 2 hours per day).
  • Both telephone (Tel: 3411 5410) and walk-in (Resource Library counter) bookings are acceptable. Bookings are normally accepted 1 week before the booking time or at the next nearest hour, the latest.
  • Users could feel free to use the Room if it is not booked.
  • If users do not show up 15 minutes after the start of the booking time, the Room could be reassigned to other users.
  • The requisitioner should present the Staff/Instructor ID Card or at least 3 Student ID cards at circulation counter upon check in.
  • Cancellation of Booking
    • To cancel the booking, the responsible person should notify the staff of Resource Library by phone / in person as early as possible.

 

Conduct of Users

  • Users are responsible for keeping the rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Eating and drinking is not allowed.
  • Do not leave any valuables unattended. The Library is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal items.
  • Discussion Room is not sound proofed, users should keep their voice low to avoid any disturbance to other users.

The Activity Room, with a capacity of 12, could be reserved for student activities. It could be reserved by student, staff, instructors or student society for holding student activities.

 

Booking

  • All applications will be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Bookings are normally accepted 2 months before the booking date or 1 working day in advance the latest. User can make reservation by telephone booking, or by sending e-mail or completed room reservation form  to Resource Library.
  • Preparation and clearance time for the function should be included in the booked hours.
  • Applicant will be notified in 1 working day upon receipt of the application.
  • If users do not show up 15 minutes after the start of the booking time, the Room could be reassigned to other users.
  • The requisitioner should present the Staff/Instructor ID Card or at least 3 Student ID cards at circulation counter upon check in.
  • Cancellation of Booking
    • To cancel the booking, the responsible person should notify the staff of Resource Library by phone / e-mail / in person as early as possible.

 

Conduct of Users

  • Eating and drinking is not allowed.
  • The tables and chairs inside the Room could be freely re-arranged and must be reverted to the original layout after use. Otherwise, they should not be moved.
  • Do not leave any valuables unattended. The Library is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal items.
  • Users should not occupy the Room after the booking time.
