Message from the Dean

As our Mission Statement denotes, the School of Continuing Education (SCE) is committed to offering quality educational services to adult learners at appropriate times, with flexible learning modes, and at convenient locations. Following our newly acquired learning centre at Wu Chung House, Wanchai which has been in operation since Autumn last year and well received by learners living or working on the Island side, the School is delighted to announce that it has newly purchased two floors in Millennium City 3, Kwun Tong which will serve as the SCE’s future learning centre in Kowloon East. In face of the tremendous development of Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O areas alongside with the ever-consummating transportation network over the districts, the School’s new learning centre in Millennium City would be envisaged to become a continuing education hub for people working or living in the Kowloon East areas. Expected to be in service as early as late 2008, the new centre will further strengthen the School’s network of educational services established across all sides of the territory.

Another recent initiative of SCE is the establishment of The Accord of Learning Organizations (ALO) in which ALO signing organizations/employers will be issued a certificate to demonstrate their commitment to develop human talents. Employees of the ALO signing organizations will receive scholarships, subject to availability, from SCE when enrolling in selected programmes at SCE. ALO demonstrates the commitment of organizations in their support of their employees to embrace learning and become knowledge workers as their competitive edge. This initiative also realizes SCE’s mission in providing high quality academic and professional programmes to employees of Hong Kong in preparing them for professional or career advancement through lifelong learning.

As for the younger group of learners, who being secondary school leavers seeking for higher learning opportunities locally, the College of International Education (CIE) of SCE will continually steer towards its mission in offering quality sub-degree programmes which are specially designed to help our young people to realize their full potential and pursue personal growth. With the substantial increase in the number of Associate Degree / Higher Diploma graduates amid the rapid surge of self-funded sub-degree programmes offered by local institutions and universities, it is foreseeable that the call for more top-up degree places for articulation is imminent. Securing the full academic backup from the University’s Faculties & Schools, the College is on the set to respond to such call by planning to develop more top-up degree programmes in the near future to meet the diverse needs of these young graduates. Throughout this process, the community can rest assured that the College’s principle of upholding quality will not be sacrificed for sake of quantity as the University’s rigid quality assurance mechanism will be strictly observed.
