English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers - Levels One and Two

Programme Features

The School of Continuing Education, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU SCE) is commissioned by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) with the grant from the Language Fund to launch the “English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers – Levels One and Two” in the 2023/24 school year.

 

Objectives

 

Level One 

The Level One programme aims at:

  • enhancing kindergarten (KG) teachers’ and principals’ English language proficiency and equipping them with essential English language skills for conducting English language activities for young children in class; and
  • enhancing KG teachers’ and principals’ understanding of early English language and literacy development/learning of young children.

 

Level Two

The Level Two programme aims at:

  • boosting the confidence and competencies of KG teachers and principals in pedagogies of exposing young children to English in an integrated/thematic approach; and
  • creating a platform for KG teachers and principals to share practices and experiences as well as to exchange knowledge with respect to English language exposure of young children.

Level One

Participants should be serving KG teachers and principals who possess the following:

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education (C(ECE)) qualification or a recognisable Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF) Level 4 qualification in ECE or its equivalent; AND
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Level 2 or above in English Language or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) Grade E or above in English Language.

(Remarks: Applicants are requested to provide the HKBU SCE with copies of the above academic qualification proof when making the online application.)

 

Level Two

Participants should be serving KG teachers and principals who possess the following:

  • Certificate of Attendance/Completion for the English Language Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers - Level One; AND
  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education (C(ECE)) qualification or a recognisable Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF) Level 4 qualification in ECE or its equivalent; AND
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Level 2 or above in English Language or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) Grade E or above in English Language.

(Remarks: Applicants are requested to provide the HKBU SCE with copies of the above academic qualification proof when making the online application.  If applicants are applying for both Levels One & Two programmes, they may provide the documentary proof of their completion of the Level One programme at a later stage.)

Level One

The Programme consists of 5 modules with a total of 35 contact hours.

The Programme will be conducted in English. Textbooks and recommended reading materials are in English.

Participants are required to attend at least 80% of the lessons of the Programme. On fulfilment of the attendance requirement, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

Application for admission to the Programme can be made via the HKBU SCE Online Application System.

 

  1. Please download and read “Application Guide ” before submitting your application;
  2. Please download and complete the “Supplementary Form”  and “Recommendation Letter (for teacher use only)” , or “Self-recommendation Letter (for principal use only)” , scan and save the completed forms as two separate PDF files;
  3. Enter SCE Online Application System and fill in the required data;
  4. Upload the digital files of the completed “Supplementary Form” and “Recommendation Letter (for teacher use only) ” or “Self-recommendation Letter (for principal use only) ”,  other required supporting documents (please refer to the “Application Guide”).
