Programme Aims

The programme aims at providing students with signified skills and knowledge of a greater complexity in the context of business, leisure, recreation and sports administration. It offers an integrated understanding of Hong Kong business environment, synthesizing business knowledge while cultivating specialized competence in leisure, recreation and sports administration function for developing students as professionals in relevant industry.

Academic Recognition

Under normal circumstances, graduates of the Advanced Diploma in Business (Leisure, Recreation and Sports Administration) are possibly granted exemption of 10 courses out of 24 courses towards the Bachelor of Commerce from University of Canberra depending on how closely their prior learning matches with their intended studies. Special topics such as leisure and special populations, leisure and life cycle, and professional career development will be covered in this course.

Sports facility management is a complex responsibility. This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of core principles and administration issues for a wide variety of major recreation and sport facilities and venues including stadiums, sport centres, golf facilities, camps, playing fields, fitness rooms, ice arenas and other facilities common to the world of recreation and sport. It will help current and future facility managers make proper decisions in planning, promoting, operating and maintaining recreation and sports facilities.

In recent years, sports event has become an essential component and a rapidly growing field of the sport industry. Designing, planning, managing and staging sports events have become increasingly sophisticated and specialised. This course combines theories and practices of sports event planning and management. Examples of organising and managing different scales of sports events will be discussed in class.

This course introduces concepts, principles, professional skills and knowledge needed to be an effective outdoor recreation leader. Topics such as theories and concepts of outdoor recreation, psychological and social benefits of outdoor pursuits, outdoor education, outdoor recreation leadership, and planning and administrating outdoor recreation programmes are included.

Topics include:

  6. Group Behaviour and Work Teams;
  7. Organizational Decision Making; and

1) Students cannot claim exemption from the electives.

Course Schedule and Venue

Classes and examinations will be held on weekday evenings and Saturday afternoons (normally two classes per week) at Kowloon Tong / Kowloon East / Tsimshatsui / Wan Chai Learning Centre.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  1. Level 2 in five HKDSE subjects including English and Chinese (and up to 2 APL subjects) or equivalent; OR
  2. Successful completion of Yi Jin Diploma; OR
  3. Holder of a relevant School of Continuing Education (SCE) Diploma or Certificate or other equivalent non-SCE qualifications; or
  4. Aged 21 or above, preferably with 3 years' relevant work experience.
